The UCW is a group for women belonging to the church. We do have some regular members but all women of the congregation are technically members of UCW and help out whenever needed. Members are active throughout the year in: the World Day of Prayer; bingo at Extended Care; making prayer shawls for palliative care patients, and crosses and bags for JoAnne Shaw to take to the Dominican Republic with the Medical Ministry International; co-ordinating Operation Christmas Child; planning and making the church’s project for the Palliative Care Festival of Trees; providing lunches when required at funerals, confirmations, and many other functions. We have various fundraising projects throughout the year which allow us to make local donations to Crossroads, Palliative Care and the EEO Breakfast program.

Mitten Tree: Each fall, we collect mittens, gloves and scarves to send to Bissell Centre (Edmonton) and to Crossroads (Fairview). We will be setting up the Mitten Tree in the narthex (foyer) of the church on Nov. 20 and welcome all donations to adorn it. Bissell Centre asks that we provide waterproof and windproof mitts and gloves for adults but both Bissell and Crossroads welcome knitted blankets, mitts and toques for little ones.
Palliative Care Festival of Trees: This year we will be donating a mantle adornment, courtesy of Laurie Pals, for the festival to be held at Dunvegan Motor Inn the week of Nov. 20 – 26
Fall Bazaar, Tea and Bake Sale: Saturday, Nov. 26 @ 2:00 p.m. All donations of baking and bazaar items are gratefully accepted in the church basement anytime before the tea.
Operation Christmas Child: Each year, we co-ordinate the donation of shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse. Shoeboxes can be left at the church up until Sun. Nov. 20 when we will deliver them to a depot here in Fairview. We believe that South America is the point of distribution this year. Any regular shoebox may be used and labels for Boys and Girls will be available at the church. White Gift Service: This year our White Gifts will be collected during the service on the first Sunday of Advent – Nov. 27. Gifts will be distributed to Crossroads and Bissell Centre.
Service of Remembrance: In early December, a service of remembrance is held for those who have lost loved ones during the year. It is hosted by the Funeral Home and Victims Services and held at St. Paul’s. We’ll keep you posted as to the date.
UCW Christmas Meeting: On Dec. 12, we will be hosting our special Christmas program – beginning with a Christmas service in the sanctuary. a lively Chinese gift exchange and a festive lunch. All ladies of the church are welcome to join us at 7:30 pm.
